ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Commerce was established in the year 2003 in Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. It was formed with the objective of creating successful and talented graduates by providing recognized accounting qualification, which is unique in its focus on accounting for business. The department enhances the Research and Development in the field of industry and commerce. For improving the students’ communication skills, facilities like language lab, News paper reading, etc are provided. Seminars on current affairs, corporate quiz for students, guest lectures, seminars by subject experts, workshops, industrial visit, industrial training-cum-project and so on are organized regularly for improving the core knowledge of students in the areas of computerized accounting, direct and indirect tax and research for business. The Department has regular faculties in diversified specializations like Finance and Marketing. The syllabus are revised and up-dated every three years. The subjects in the department are suitably designed to provide core knowledge in the functional areas of Marketing, Finance, Taxation, computerized accounting, Human Resources, Insurance and Banking. The students were sent to Internship during their Summer Vacation at the end of II Semester and also asked to select a topic for their project work in the III semester itself and submit the Internship report and Project report to gather at the end of the IV semester. The Department regularly organizes , Regional, State, National and International – level seminars/workshops and conferences to solicit experts view to change the curriculum into higher standards and enable the students to get employability. The main motive of conducting seminars /workshops/Conferences is to create awareness on the latest developments in the core areas of the subjects.
