About the Department
The Department of Education at Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal, was established in 1985 with a mission to provide quality education and foster the holistic development of students. Recognized as a "Centre for Excellence" by the Higher Education Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the department is dedicated to educational excellence and the empowerment of women. Offering a range of Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Doctoral (PhD) programs, it plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of aspiring educators. Since its inception, the Department has been actively involved in various initiatives, including serving as a University Grants Commission RCC-Refresher Course Centre and conducting refresher courses in women's education. Additionally, it has acted as the Nodal Agency of MHRD, New Delhi, in monitoring SSA and RMSA in 17 districts of TamilNadu, there by contributing to the advancement of the educational sector in the region.
Aligned with the university's vision of promoting women's education, the Department of Education has evolved to address the growing need for qualified educator scalable of meeting the demands of an ever-changing educational landscape. Over the years, it has grown to become a Centre of Excellence in teacher education and educational research, significantly contributing to both regional and national development. The foundation of the department was laid to produce capable educators through comprehensive teacher education programs, making it a corner stone of the university's commitment to women's empowerment and academic excellence. Its ongoing dedication to quality education, research, and community engagement continues to set a benchmark in the field of education and special education.
